MARK + ASHLEY

Mark and Ashley are our good friends. When they asked me if I'd photograph their wedding, I hesitated. Mark is my last close friend to get married. He's spent the last 10 years hunkered down in the dark corners of various libraries around Western Canada, studying to become a doctor. Along the way he found the only person more studious than he is, so he proposed.

The point is, I wanted to enjoy this celebration, spend time with my friends who'd traveled here and be an observer of this amazing day. Turns out I got to do just that. I shot this wedding with Heather Fritz, Mark's cousin who's a photographer in Saskatoon, which meant I got to spend the day with the guys. My mates. My comrades. My close friends. It couldn't have been better.

Weddings are always amazing. You're watching two people on the happiest day of their lives. But when it's your friends it's more. You know at least a bit about what led them to this point. You've listened to them along the way. You've been a part of it. Even if it's just a small part, you share in their happiness.

I'm glad I was given the responsibility of capturing that happiness.
